For a closer look:

adelaidethegirl is primarily a songwriter. Her music presents complex and voluble lyrical content, cocooned within a tapestry of harmonies and synthetic instruments. Adelaide's songs are an intimate look at the human condition, ranging from specific to poetic, interspersed with literary and cultural references. Influences include Kate Bush, Sorry, Fiona Apple, Andy Shauf, Patti Smith, and Sufjan Stevens.

Adelaide has carved out a unique sound through an array of inspirations, not only musical but literary and artistic. The music exudes a love for words and an interest in elaborate sound design. As a result it is experimental and diverse.

Her most recent release is a 14 track album titled: 'Secrets We Almost Kept'. The album encompasses layered harmonies, dystopian soundscapes lead by the intricate flow of lyrics. Adelaide ventures into art-rock territory and constructs indie-pop hybrids at other junctures. This work explores themes of art creation, societal ridicule, loneliness, self discovery and the darker parts of love.

"The lyrics are a deeply personal look at my experiences over the past two years. There are some key references and influences, including Kurt Vonnegut but most of all Patti Smith. Her literary and musical work has accompanied me in many moments of self-reflection during the creation of this album."

"I live a solitary life. I write, compose, record and mix all my music. I've learned to approximate a lot of things I'm not naturally adept at. It's selfish and peaceful and kind of wonderful, though solitude can be hard to unlearn."

Contrary to these ingrained habits Adelaide has undertaken numerous collaborations with talented musicians, writers and artists. Some of these include songs with Tanax, Monica Engel and Miroji's Gogo Miller, and several video projects with longtime collaborator Miranda Jayne.

"I've dragged my self from the womb of solitude several times and it's always been a sweet and insightful experience. Some of my favourite songs and videos have resulted from the tentative meshing of personalities."

However, in the past 3 years she has been pursuing live music more seriously. She hopes to keep planning and being engaged in events that give opportunities to passionate songwriters with arresting and unusual styles.

"it's challenging when the music doesn't sound the same live but I'm excited to explore different set ups and versions of songs."

Live, the listener can expect a stripped back rendering of adelaidethegirl's music, with voice and keys, allowing the lyrics to shine through.
